City Hall Photography

I love San Francisco City Hall!

Not only is it one of the most beautiful places to photograph, but just BEING in that building is inspiring - whether it’s seeing the looks on people’s faces as they take in the stunning marble and gold, or feeling the buzz in the air as other weddings take place around the grounds.

As a San Francisco Bay Area native, San Francisco City Hall has been a landmark in many of my significant memories of the city. So many people come to City Hall to take in the stunning architecture or to attend important events in the life of our city and community, and it is a privilege to be able to be there as a photographer with my beautiful couples.

I’ve been lucky enough to have photographed weddings in San Francisco City Hall for the past ten years and it never gets old. Whether the two of you are doing a simple elopement (Civil Ceremony), you are having a hundred-person wedding on the glorious fourth-floor (Mayor’s Balcony or Fourth Floor Gallery), or doing a full-blown, “more traditional” Saturday night wedding and renting the whole place out, I have seen it all, done it all, and LOVED it all, and would be thrilled to help you find the perfect fit for you and your person.

Civil Ceremony Package

If you’re going the Civil Ceremony route (my most common package purchased), this is a public ceremony typically performed in the Rotunda Area, Private Room or another spot your judge will suggest. City Hall enforces the rule of six guests maximum for the Rotunda ceremony and if you have more than six guests, you will likely have your ceremony in the private room.

Day of Details

Once you sign your marriage license and meet the judge who will officiate your wedding, we will have a few minutes to take photos before your ceremony. Once the five-minute ceremony is over, I will typically take the opportunity to do family photos, followed by couples’ photos. During the couples’ portrait time, we can take a tour of the building and shoot at all of my favorite locations throughout the building and have a great time along the way. I’m practically an unofficial tour guide at this point :)

Prior to the wedding day, I love working with my couples to find out if there are any particular shots they are hoping to get - But if the couple isn’t picky, I love showing them the greatest hits - the third-story with its gorgeous 1920’s style windows, the heavenly-lit fourth floor, the majestic marble staircase...I mean, even the elevator is photogenic! Have I already said I love (and never get tired) of photographing at City Hall? I am happy to help if you have any questions along the way - I’ve photographed at San Francisco City Hall for the last ten years and not only know the building, but I know what makes for a good flow of the day for a City Hall Wedding.
